The team behind Upendra's movie UI has addressed rumors regarding its OTT release, denying reports that the film’s rights have been acquired by any platform. They clarified that no official announcement about the movie's streaming partner has been made yet.
Rumors of OTT Release Denied
Released in theaters on December 20, 2024, UI is a dystopian action film starring and directed by Kannada superstar Upendra. While the film was produced on a grand scale with a budget of ₹60 crores, it faced a lukewarm response, earning just ₹30 crores within two weeks of its release. Negative word-of-mouth significantly impacted its box office performance, and the movie is anticipated to incur losses.
Adding to the speculation, no streaming or TV partners were mentioned in the movie’s credits. This fueled rumors that UI had been sold to Sun NXT for OTT distribution. However, on January 8, the production team took to social media to dismiss these claims.
Producer KP Srikanth issued an official statement:
"Important announcement: Reports on social media claiming that Sun NXT has acquired the OTT rights of UI: The Movie are false. Only the official UI team will share accurate updates regarding OTT rights and other developments. We request everyone not to believe or spread such rumors. Please follow our official channels for verified updates."

While the team denied the Sun NXT rumors, speculations persist about other platforms acquiring the movie. A recent Instagram post featuring logos of Zee Kannada and Zee Studios suggests that Zee Network has acquired the satellite rights for the movie.
